I like the site. I, too, am interested in Roman history, and comparisons with our nation today are useful.
I think, however , examining the Late Republic is more relevant than the later Empire. I think we are right at that tipping point, where armies become privatized, e.g. Gaius Marius. When I hear about the increasing role of corporate entities in our military, it sends chills down my spine.
